It’s Official
– It’s Inverleith!!...
At the City of Edinburgh
Council Executive meeting on Tuesday 1st June, a report
tabled, recommending the siting of Edinburgh’s
concrete skatepark in Inverleith Park was agreed.
Several ESP reps. were present at the meeting - Sam
Paterson and Ali Low spoke on behalf of ESP highlighting
skaters concerns about the time it has taken to get
to this point. They also intimated that, in spite
of the various statements of support from city politicians
and others, to getting a skatepark built, Edinburgh
has seriously fallen behind many towns & cities
across the country in the development of a large scale
skate facility.
Donald Anderson leader of the council acknowledged
ESP’s concerns and intimated that he now wants
to see the skatepark ready by “next season.”
The ‘valium fuelled sloth’ is now starting
to stir again and we are restarting work with Clive
Bowman on finalising the park design to ensure a planning
application is submitted as soon as possible.
We will keep you posted through this website of developments
as things progress.
We are also aware that there has been some confusion
about where in Inverleith the park will actually be
built. Contrary to what was highlighted in the press
and the recent concerns expressed elsewhere about
this, it is not going to be on the slope next to the
pond. ESP has fought long and hard to get the best
available location for the park, there’s no
way we would have accepted the side of a hill!
The map below shows accurately the position of the
site.
